Scarifying

Why Scarify?

Scarifying is the process of removing the thatch layer under your lawn.

Thatch is the layer of dead vegetation between the soil and green leaf blades. A thick build-up of thatch will create a spongey feel to your lawn making it difficult to mow and prevent air and water reaching your soil.

Thatch continues to build-up over time and if left unchecked can eventually prevent water, nutrients and lights feeding the lawn. Your soil type and more importantly, your lawn type will determine if and when you need to scarify. The idea that all lawns need scarifying every year is not correct. Generally Sir Walter lawns will require this as it is an above ground plant with stolens.  In saying that, a good clean out very fews years does wonders to your lawn. Like pruning trees, make sure you do it at the right time of year to allow your lawn a speedy recovery. Am important point that is often overlooked is that your lawn must be in good health prior to scarifying if it is to recover well.

Price Guide:

Although prices vary, scarifying of an average size lawn in Hervey Bay will start from $240.
